Vacation in Paradise (VIP)

1.0 What is the Vacation in Paradise (VIP)?

The Vacation in Paradise (VIP) is an effort to look at the new travel realities, as a result of the COVID-19. It is a novel concept of keeping tourists in a confined or dedicated area with the main aims to:

(i) Reduce close contact with Fijian communities; and

(ii) Avoid mixing of tourists from COVID contained countries and non-COVID contained countries.

The VIP covers the strict movement of tourists from the time of arrival in Fiji till the time of departure, to limit the risk of possible community transmission.

2.0 Overarching Principles:

(i) Maintain physical distancing of 1.5 metres

(ii) Ensure personal hygiene at all times

(iii) Appropriate use of face covering

(iv) Enhance surface sanitisation

(v) Screening and management of persons with symptoms

(vi) Maintain contact tracing information

(vii) Mandated use of careFIJI app

3.0 How will the VIP be implemented?

Notwithstanding adherence to prevailing public health measures of the receiving country/region, tourists must comply with an organised itinerary in Fiji.

3.1 Airport Protocols

Airport authorities will operate according to their COVID Safe protocols. It is important to note that in circumstances where two or more flights arrive or depart Nadi International Airport at the same time, Fiji Airports Limited (FAL) will create separate lanes from the arrival halls or departure for the respective tourists to and from their dedicated hotels. This will avoid any chance of mixing of passengers from different destinations.

3.2 Transport

Upon arrival at the Nadi International Airport, tourists will be transferred via dedicated transfers (taxis, tour companies, aircrafts and ferries) to their respective hotels. Tourists departing Fiji will again be transferred via dedicated transfers from their dedicated hotels to the Nadi International Airport.

NOTE: The transfers will be assessed and approved by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), and will operate under the COVID Safe Plan.

3.3 Dedicated Hotels

The dedicated hotels will be determined by the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce (CRMT) with consultations with the relevant stakeholders. It is important to note that there will be restricted movement between the dedicated hotel and the rest of Fiji. Tourists are to strictly adhere to the relevant overarching principles set out in 2.0 and the dedicated hotels COVID Safe Guidelines at all times.

3.4 Tours and Activities

Tourists must only travel and undertake select types of tourism related activities within the dedicated VIP, mainly within the hotel. It is important to note that there will be restricted movement between the dedicated hotel and the rest of Fiji. Tourists are to strictly adhere to the relevant overarching principles in 2.0 and the dedicated hotels COVID Safe Guidelines at all times. This could be considered for Phase 3.
